What if neighbors and strangers gathered in each other's yards and homes for a shared experience?

Grassroots is a series of place-based art and music experiences in Iceland. This project is co-created by participants and utilizes shared spaces—such as courtyards, sidewalks, rooftops and natural grounds—for experiences that promote belonging. It also served as a prototype and learning ground for a larger festival experience called Saga Fest. This event highlighted Icelandic and international talent while attracting visitors to places in/around Reykjavík that are not normally frequented by tourists. This was a deep exploration of creative placemaking: transforming private and public spaces into containers that bring strangers together to participate in a shared experience.
